1 GM9130HV 3a led driver with dimming control GM9130HV v2.02 www.gammamicro.com.tw typical application circuits description GM9130HV is the monolithic ic designed for a step-down dc/dc converte r capable of driving 3a load without an additional transistor. the input voltage range is up to 60v. its feedback voltage, v fb , is 200mv. the GM9130HV operates at a switching frequency of 52khz. the external shutdown function is controlled by a logic level on the on/off pin and then the circuit comes into the standby mode with i stby ~50 a (typ.). the on/off pin may be used for the analog dimming. as the voltage on the on/off pin is increased from 0.07v to 0.67v, the voltage on the fb pin falls from 200mv to 0. the self-protection features include a cycle-by- cycle current limit and a thermal protection. the GM9130HV is available in standard to220- 5, and to263-5 packages. besides, sop8 with heat sink and to252-5 packages are also available. however, these packages are limited to heat dissipation and the iled is suggested below 2a. features ? maximum input voltage up to 60v ? v fb : 200mv ? frequency: 52khz ? i led = 3.0a maximum ? on/off input may be used for the analog dimming ? thermal protection ? cycle by cycle current limit sw v in up to 60v GM9130HV fb l1 100 h c out 470 f 4 on/off 2 v in 5 1 c in2 0.10 f c in1 470 f r load figure 1. application for GM9130HV free datasheet http:///

r load is selected, with v fb = 200mv typical, then i led = 200 / 2 = 100ma power / heat consideration various i led could be obtained by different resistor val ues as mentioned above. however, taking the to263-5 as an example, the maximum power rating must be followed. t j = p ic ja + t a where p ic is the power of the ic itself, and ja is the thermal resistance (junction to ambient). for to263-5, the ja is 50c/w, the safe power will be p ic = t j ?t a / ja = (150 ?
